[Slide 1] Understanding Fraction Division
Welcome class. Today we learn dividing proper fractions using real life examples. Imagine Siti buying noodles at a Tampines hawker centre.
[Slide 2] The Keep, Change, Flip Rule
To divide fractions, keep the first number. Change division to multiplication and flip the second fraction. This is called finding the reciprocal.
[Slide 3] Siti's Noodle Problem
Let's solve a problem involving Siti and money at the market. We draw bar models to see how many halves fit into three quarters.
[Slide 4] Solving with Bar Models
Using the rule, we flip one half to two over one. Multiply three by two and four by one. The bar model shows one and a half bags.
[Slide 5] Common Mistakes to Avoid
Many students flip the first fraction by mistake. Remember only the second fraction gets flipped. Always check if the answer is reasonable.
[Slide 6] Lesson Recap
Remember to draw bars for clarity before calculating. Use the reciprocal rule carefully for every question. Good luck with your PSLE preparation.
